Summer High School Original Credit and Honors Courses

Accelerate coursework. Learn another language. Enrich your learning experience. Explore new interests or master new technologies. Pearson Online Academy allows motivated high school students the opportunity to continue learning and growing throughout the summer with original credit courses. High school original credit courses require the equivalent of about four hours of work per day, five days a week for the duration of the course.

For high-achieving high school students, Pearson Online Academy offers a broad selection of honors courses that fulfill basic graduation requirements in English, history, math, and science while providing a more challenging academic environment.

Students in our online summer high school honors courses can expect to work harder and commit more time to their studies. They will explore concepts in depth, engage in independent research, and sharpen their critical-thinking skills. Students in each course will develop their ability to question, analyze, interpret information, and communicate ideas to others.

High School Credit Recovery Courses

Pearson Online Academy’s summer school high school credit recovery courses enable students to recover the credits they need to graduate and ensure students gain the core skills to succeed. These courses are only available to students who have taken the course previously and did not earn credit.

If a student has not attempted the course prior to the summer session, they should enroll in the original credit version.

High school credit recovery courses require the equivalent of about four hours of work per day, five days a week for the duration of the course.

NCAA Eligible High School Courses

Many of the summer school high school courses offered by Pearson Online Academy are pre-approved for gaining eligibility through the NCAA Eligibility Center. Student athletes can choose from a number of Original Credit courses and must start no later than June 8th.

The following summer school high school courses are approved for NCAA eligibility during summer school:

Course Regulations

Our NCAA online approved courses are the standard version of Pearson Online Academy’s regular school year courses. Teachers and students must abide by the same policies as if the student was taking the course during the school year.

  • Students must have synchronous contact by phone or through LiveLesson® sessions with teachers at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% completion in the course.
  • Pearson Online Academy requires that students work 72 hours minimum over the course of a half-credit class.
  • Students are expected to complete the course as prescribed over a minimum of four weeks enrollment in each half-credit course.
  • Students must take both parts (A&B) of the course consecutively. This usually means completing both Part A and Part B during summer school. Because of the time required, courses that include a part A & B must start no later than June 8.
  • Students may only take up to two (2) full-credit NCAA-eligible original credit courses during the summer session. In order to complete all of the material in the two sessions, students will have to dedicate approximately 4–5 hours per day, per course.
  • Credit Recovery courses are NOT approved for NCAA eligibility.
