Lisa Vaughn started teaching in 2001 and joined Pearson Online Academy in 2020. She teaches core subjects to students in third grade.
Why I Became a Teacher
As a kid, I loved school. I used to set my dolls up on the couch and teach them lessons using my little blackboard, so I’ve been practicing a long time! The best teacher I ever had taught the gifted and talented program at my high school. He had a positive impact in my life for which I am thankful. I wanted to “pay it forward” and share my love of learning, creativity, and critical thinking with my students. After all, they are our future.
I treasure the relationships I form with my students. Getting to know them and learn about their diverse backgrounds is so much fun. The flexibility of our program allows students to pursue their interests outside of school.
The Online School Experience at Pearson Online Academy
I try to create a learning environment where students feel comfortable sharing and asking questions during class. I like having recess sessions where my students and I can hang out and socialize. We also have a class Padlet wall where students share their work and ideas.
I like to do interactive activities with my students because they enjoy them so much. This also helps me see who understands and who might need more help.
Pearson Online Academy helps prepare students not only by providing high-quality curriculum and classes, but by helping them develop life skills such as taking responsibility for their learning, planning their schedules, and advocating for themselves.

My Personal Interests
I live in Florida with my husband and our two cats. I enjoy hanging out on the back porch with them in the evenings, chatting, and watching the wildlife in our yard. I love to read and would read all day if I could! I also like writing, listening to music, and watching classic movies and documentaries. I love to travel and learn about other cultures. My happy place is the beach.
