Gifted and Talented Program for Private Elementary and Middle School
Identifying Gifted Students
For full-time Pearson Online Academy students, parents or a teacher may nominate a student for enrollment in Pearson Online Academy’s gifted or talented program. In evaluating nominations to the program, Pearson Online Academy considers:
- Aptitude and achievement test scores
- Grades or previous academic performance
- An individual portfolio of previous work
- An assessment from a prior school
Gifted and Talented Program Teachers
Pearson Online Academy teachers hold advanced degrees and certifications, capable of supporting our Gifted and Talented program. They receive specific training in working with gifted and talented students, as well as ongoing professional development to enhance their skills and techniques in the virtual classroom environment. Our online teachers for gifted and talented students help students succeed academically by:
- Accelerating or compacting lessons
- Extending or enriching curriculum content
- Increasing complexity
- Encouraging discussion and higher-level thinking
- Providing variety and choices of activities
- Adapting plans to varied learning styles
- Incorporating student interests

Whether online, by phone, or in a real-time LiveLesson® session, our teachers establish caring relationships with students and provide the skillful instruction, one-on-one attention, and encouragement kids need to succeed.
Online High School Honors and Advanced Placement® (AP®) Courses
Pearson Online Academy offers a broad selection of honors courses that fulfill basic graduation requirements in English, history, math, and science while providing a more challenging academic environment. Students in our online high school honors courses will explore concepts in depth, engage in independent research, and sharpen their critical-thinking skills. Students in each course will develop their ability to question, analyze, interpret information, and communicate ideas to others.
With Pearson Online Academy, advanced high school students can get a jump on earning college credits! Pearson Online Academy’s impressive assortment of College Board-approved online Advanced Placement®(AP®)* courses prepare students to take national AP exams. High scores on these tests may enable students to earn early college credit. Enrolling in these demanding college-level courses also helps Pearson Online Academy students gain the skills and study habits they’ll need to succeed in college.
