Read more of Ms. Kirkpatrick’s story below.

“I became a teacher because I love working with kids, especially those in middle school. I taught Sunday school every week at our church starting at the age of nineteen, and I continued to do so for six years until my family moved. I currently teach Sunday school a couple of times a month. I knew from those experiences that I wanted to help kids. I combined my desire to help others with my knowledge of math and pursued a degree in education.

I love that my coworkers are so helpful. We work really well together as a team to be the best teachers we can be and to provide an amazing learning environment for our students. I enjoy working with the students. They are motivated to do well, and they reach out for help when they are struggling.

The benefit of teaching at an online school versus a bricks-and-mortar school is that the students at Pearson Online Academy can take the time needed to master a concept before moving on. I also have time to work one-on-one with students and in small groups. Students are provided with so many different resources to help them learn the concepts and can choose the ones that work best for them. An Pearson Online Academy student learns how to work as an individual when completing his or her lessons and assessments, and how to work with others when attending LiveLesson® sessions and participating in clubs and school events. While working individually or in a group, students are learning through real-world applications.”

In Ms. Kirkpatrick’s free-time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family. She is also a runner and has run a couple half marathons to raise money for local charities.

Teaching at Pearson Online Academy doesn’t feel like work because it is so much fun and so rewarding!
