Ms. Martinez is an elementary teacher at Pearson Online Academy. She started her teaching career more than eighteen years ago and joined Pearson Online Academy in 2012. Ms. Martinez holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in education media design and technology from Sail University.
When asked about her experiences with Pearson Online Academy, Ms. Martinez said the following:
“I became a teacher because I have always enjoyed helping others to learn and understand new ideas. When I was younger, I used to help my older brother and older sister understand their math lessons. I loved being able to help them, even when my dad couldn’t. Throughout high school and college, I found myself volunteering and teaching at schools. I love working with students and being able to help them believe in their unlimited potential.
The benefit of teaching at an online school versus a bricks-and-mortar school is that I am working in a field that is pioneering major changes in education. It is exciting to think what education will look like in five, ten, and fifteen years. I like having the opportunity to be able to support each student on his or her learning journey.
The Pearson Online Academy school community is unique. It has the most diverse student population of any school I have worked in. Some of our students are pursuing other passions such as sports, acting, or music, in addition to being a student. The ability to learn firsthand about life in other countries from fellow classmates is unique, too. At Pearson Online Academy, students are able to gain firsthand knowledge about the world through interacting with students who live all around the globe. They also learn how to work both individually and collaboratively.”
Ms. Martinez enjoys reading and learning new things. She likes to spend time enjoying the outdoors with her family and doing activities that allow her to be creative.
In addition to helping my students achieve success academically, I work to help them develop skills and mind-sets that allow them to direct their own learning as they pursue their interests, passions, and life goals.
