Bachelor's Degree, Secondary Education, Kansas State University

Will Brown started teaching in 2013 and joined Pearson Online Academy in 2020. He teaches social studies to students in grades 7–12 and has more than five years of experience as an online educator.

Why He Became a Teacher

“I come from a family of teachers … [and] have always had a passion for sharing knowledge in a way that gets people excited. I also really saw the impact many of my teachers had on me, and I wanted to have that same impact on future generations,” explains Mr. Brown.

“[The most rewarding aspect of my work at this school is] when I receive emails or phone calls from families telling me their students are enjoying the class—it makes me feel great.”

The Online School Experience at Pearson Online Academy

Mr. Brown reports his favorite classroom activity is “our class discussion time, where students can bounce ideas off each other after I prompt them with higher-order thinking questions … There is often a stereotype that social studies is the boring class, and my goal has always been to make it the least boring class a student takes.”

I have witnessed so many families have success at Pearson Online Academy and enjoy their experience.

What Families Considering This School Should Keep in Mind

“At this school, we promote independent learning and self-accountability. We will always be there to help students when they need it, but a big part of online learning is holding yourself accountable. This is a wonderful life lesson itself. Our curriculum is also fantastic and helps prepare students for the next steps,” explains Mr. Brown.

“Students and families that hold themselves accountable, attend [on-camera] LiveLesson® sessions, and regularly check in with their teachers always end the school year with positive feelings about our school.”
